Northbrook Lighting, Seat Wall for Fire Pit, and more!

Backyards are made for entertaining. 🍻 In our recent project, we had the opportunity to take on several projects in one. Our resident in Northbrook, IL approached us with a project to overhaul their backyard. What was needed? A new patio, seat wall for fire pit, landscaping, and lighting installation. The outcome is something we’re most proud of. It incorporates many design projects that really brought new life to the customer’s backyard. Happy customer, happy National Brick.

Specifically, we used Rivenstone Unilock bluestone pavers for the outside patio area. Installed a new seat wall for their outdoor fire pit. Within the seat wall, we embedded outdoor lighting units to ensure well lit and safe passage in the evenings. And we finished the project off with landscaping that will stand for years to come to provide shade, new life, and visual screening.

Lake Forest Walkway, Steps, and Landscaping

We love a good challenge! 🚧 Every now and then, we get the incredible opportunity to tackle multiple renovations at the same time. In our latest project, we’re showcasing recent work done in Lake Forest, IL. The project had multiple facets to it, including, but not limited to: new walkway installation, landscaping design overhauls, entry steps redone, and more.

When we first got the chance to see the property, in partnership with the owner, we identified several areas that needed serious overhaul. There was overgrown vegetation, worn down overhangs, and busted paver walkways, all leading to uneven / unsafe side entrance steps. We took our time to work with the owner to layout out some new ideas and proposed solutions to open up the space and allow for better usage.

Natural Flagstone Pathway

In this recent job, we tied two stone hardscapes together with some natural flagstone with gator dust between the joints. The gator dust was used to lock the larger pieces into place. By using a few different styles of brick, we give the space a feeling of transition and boundaries, while allowing for high quality and level walkways. We had the pleasure of recently updating the side yard of this house in Glencoe, IL. We used a mixture of Unilock Holland Premier and Brussels Premier stone with crushed gravel corners. This is an excellent space for outdoor seating, barbecues, and more.

Lake Forest, IL Bluestone Walkway

Here is a modern and fashionable walkway we recently built in Lake Forest, Illinois. To restore this area, we had to remove old boxwoods and replace with a full range of great new bluestone. Additionally, we planted perennials along with Kichler lighting products.

Glencoe, IL, Dry Riverbed

For the next couple of days, we will update the website with our recent projects from last Fall throughout Spring. These will showcase before and after pictures of renovations across the greater ChicagoLand area.

In Glencoe, Illinois, we recently installed a beautiful dry riverbed. Four downspouts converged on the side of this house along with 2 sump pumps. It was densely shaded and slopping. Adding a dry riverbed gave some beauty and function to erosion and sparse ground.

Chicago Pool Decks Continued

Here is another outdoor pool/deck area we recently completed in Lake Forest, IL. For materials, we went with Unilock Brussels in the full, half and XL sizes for a random pattern. Bull nose copping in Unilock smooth finish. For sand, we installed Techniseal NextGel Polymeric Sand and for polymeric sand application: rubber plated light weight compactor. Multiple passes with a dry surface so that sand settles to the bottom. 

Time: 3 weeks for brick work, grading the soil, install grass, drainage under walk, plants and sealer

Sealer: Sure bond with anti fungal, not only brings out the color, keeps the color longer but enhances and makes polymeric sand stronger 

Pool Decks Brickwork Starts

New Pool Paver Overhauls in Chicago, IL

Historical Downtown Lake Villa, IL

Here's a recent job we designed and installed in historical Lake Villa, IL outside of Chicago. Take a look at the images below as we transformed the backyard into a great patio area.

Some details of the job include installation of Unilock Camelot in the sierra color. The steppers to the porch stairs are bluestone full color 2x3 pieces. Surrounding area is bluestone chips on top of landscape fabric to prevent chips from digging and mixing with soil.  The fabric will help in weed suppression.

Glencoe Walkway Pavers

In a recent Glencoe, Illinois project, we removed 2100 square feet of driveway asphalt and installed Holland driveway pavers from Unilock in the rustic red color. The end result is a beautiful and timeless look that sets the house apart from others. 

It took some planning, but we also repaired a flagstone wall and added permeable landscape fabric with crushed rock for drainage. This will hold the test of time, and keep the landscaping looking neat for years with minimal upkeep.

In order to follow code for the new front home entryway, each step must be at the same height. We always ensure our steps are usable and up to codes and standards. This ensures safety and professional aesthetics. A new step was poured and topped with thermal bluestone treads. Lastly, a planter was added to left so the homeowner can place new flowerpots.

In our final process, we installed the Bluestone walkway to break up the maze of pavers from the driveway. Lastly, take notice of the stone that borders the grass keeps grade back.

Deerfield, Illinois Walkways

This May, we were thrilled to do work for a repeat customer in Deerfield, Illinois. This customer had a ground level wood deck with an old walkway under that. We built two new steps, capped them with Brussels block pavers from Unilock and built a whole new patio as well as an overhauled home brick walkway.
